On April 25, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of the French Republic.
Xi Jinping pointed out, over the past five years, under our joint guidance, China-France comprehensive strategic partnership has maintained a high level of development. The two sides have continued to deepen practical cooperation across the board, and worked together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, jointly uphold multilateralism and improve global governance, injecting new impetus into China-EU relations and making new contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity.
Xi Jinping stressed that both China and France are major countries with a tradition of independence. As the international landscape is undergoing profound and complex changes, the strategic significance of the sound and stable development of China-France relations has become ever more prominent. I have always viewed China-France relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. I am willing to work with President Macron to uphold the original aspiration of the establishment of diplomatic relations of "independence, mutual understanding, foresight, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes", and jointly push China-France relations to new heights for the benefit of the people of our two countries and the world at large.
