On August 19, at the initiative of the Egyptian side, a telephone conversation was conducted between the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdelatty.
The ministers engaged in a comprehensive exchange of views on pressing Middle Eastern issues, with particular emphasis on the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. They underscored the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and for ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access to the Palestinian enclave.
The sides exchanged views on the situation concerning the Iranian nuclear programme and ongoing regional conflicts on the African continent.
In the context of discussions over the Ukrainian crisis, Sergey Lavrov apprised his Egyptian counterpart of the key outcomes of the Russia-US summit in Alaska.
Prospects for further bilateral collaboration were also scrutinised, including the enhancement of foreign policy coordination and priority objectives for expanding business cooperation between Russia and Egypt. The foreign ministers devoted special attention to preparations for the first Russia-Arab Summit in Moscow on October 15 of this year, as well as the second Russia-Africa Ministerial Conference in Cairo on November 18-19.
