MANILA -- The Philippine government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on Tuesday strongly denounced North Korea's launch of a suspected short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) into the East Sea, describing the act as concerning and provocative.

"Such provocative actions undermine economic progress, peace, and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the Indo-Pacific region," DFA said in a statement.

"We reiterate our call for the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) to promptly cease these activities and abide by all its international obligations, including relevant UN (United Nations) Security Council Resolutions, and to commit to peaceful and constructive dialogue," the statement further said.

North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea on Nov. 7, a day after it warned of "proper measures" against the recent sanctions imposed by the United States.

Local reports citing South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launch was detected from near Taegwan County in North Phyongan Province at 12:35 p.m.

The missile flew about 700 kilometers before splashing into the sea. (PNA)
