Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has departed for China by a special train on September 1 to attend the 80th anniversary commemoration for the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the DPRK's Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday, China Central Television reported.

He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and other senior party and government officials, according to the announcement.

We warmly welcome General Secretary Kim Jong Un to China to attend the commemorative event, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei said at a press conference on China's V-Day commemorations on August 28, 2025.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the DPRK. During the arduous years of war, the peoples of China and the DPRK supported each other and jointly fought against Japanese aggression, making important contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the cause of human justice, Hong said.

Upholding, consolidating and developing China-DPRK relations is a firm stance of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government. China is willing to continue to work hand in hand with the DPRK on the path of strengthening exchanges and cooperation and advancing socialist construction, and to closely collaborate in the cause of promoting regional peace and stability and safeguarding international fairness and justice, so as to write a new chapter in China-DPRK traditional friendship, Hong said.
