Kim Jong-un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will attend China's V-Day commemorations on September 3, China's Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei announced on Thursday.

In response to a question on China's view on the DPRK leader's visit, Hong said that China and the DPRK are traditional friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. We warmly welcome General Secretary Kim Jong-un to China to attend the commemorative event.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the DPRK. During the arduous years of war, the peoples of China and the DPRK supported each other and jointly fought against Japanese aggression, making important contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the cause of human justice, Hong said.

Upholding, consolidating and developing China-DPRK relations is a firm stance of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government. China is willing to continue to work hand in hand with the DPRK on the path of strengthening exchanges and cooperation and advancing socialist construction, and to closely collaborate in the cause of promoting regional peace and stability and safeguarding international fairness and justice, so as to write a new chapter in China-DPRK traditional friendship, said the assistant foreign minister.
