Taipei, May 14 (CNA) As a new page of history is turned in the Asia-Pacific with the recent inter-Korean summit, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said she hoped that the peace initiatives broached during the event spread to the rest of the region, according to a press release issued by the Presidential Office.

"Although there are challenges ahead for Taiwan, we have also seen the opportunity for peace with the two Koreas burying the hatchet, and we hope that atmosphere spreads to other parts of the region," Tsai was quoted as telling members of the Japanese delegation attending the fifth Taiwan-Japan Strategic Dialogue in Taiwan.

"With the recent summit held by the leaders of China, Japan and South Korea, interactions between Japan and mainland China have also improved ..." she said, noting that better China-Japan ties are conducive to stable development in the region, and a good China-Japan relationship does not necessarily preclude a good relationship between Taiwan and Japan.

Taiwan is also willing to take part in the Indo-Pacific Strategy broached by U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which Tsai said establishes a foundation for countries in the region to move toward the common goal of peace and prosperity.

Tsai expressed hope that her Japanese guests will continue supporting Taiwan's bid to play a more constructive role in the region and the international community by helping the nation participate in multilateral dialogue in the region.
