A new generation of ICBM was successfully launched on November 29 under the direct guidance of Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army.

He oversaw the whole process of the test-fire at the site.

He was accompanied by Jang Chang Ha, Jon Il Ho, Jo Yong Won and Yu Jin.

Upon hearing a report that the test-fire was ready, he arrived late on November 28 at the site where technical preparations were being made.

He first viewed a homegrown 9-axis self-propelled launcher.

He expressed satisfaction with the launcher, saying that "we can produce such launchers as we want and as many as possible now that the munitions industry has made a breakthrough in putting on a 100 percent domestic and Juche basis the production of all the elements like the launcher body, motor, heavy tyre, lifting arm, launch platform, hydraulic jack, electric control unit and power unit."

He then went out to the launch site and stayed with defence scientists and technicians while meticulously overseeing every pre-launch process like vertical hoisting of the ICBM.

He took his seat at the observation post and checked the test-fire plan in detail before giving an order to fire the missile.

With a thunderous boom, Hwasong 15 loaded with Juche Korea's inexhaustible power lifted off spouting a gush of flame.

The test-fire was conducted in such a way as to ensure the highest angle of the launch with the aim of verifying the tactical and technical specifications and operational reliability of the new weapon system.

The ICBM climbed up to 4 475 kilometres and made a flight of 950 kilometres for 53 minutes before landing home on the target international waters in the East Sea of Korea.

The test proved that all the parameters of the weapon system exactly met the requirements of the design and that it can fully satisfy the combat needs in line with its mission.

Notably, the test verified the accuracy of the missile by attitude control and speed adjustment during its intermediate flight, and the normal operation of the heavy-lift engine whose thrust comes under vector control and the engine with a high specific thrust, with the design parameters of the guide and stabilization system proving precise.

Also verified were the mobility and lifting ability of the newly developed 9-axis self-propelled launcher and the operational reliability of its launch system.

In addition, the reliability of the control and stabilization technology and the stage separation and starting technology, as well as the survivability of the warhead during the reentry, were re-verified.

Hwasong 15 whose mobility and accuracy are fully ensured is, in name and in reality, a weapon system of the Workers' Party of Korea which has been developed 100 percent by Korean efforts and technology to meet the local conditions. This means the DPRK is armed with another latest ICBM system that is capable of delivering a super-heavy nuclear warhead and striking the whole of the US mainland.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un was more than happy with the straight success of Hwasong 15, saying passionately that he would like to give his heartfelt thanks to all the combatants who participated in the development of the new weapon system.

Today marks a defining moment when the historic cause of the national nuclear programme, the cause of building a missile power, has been accomplished, he said, adding that the day witnessing the birth of a great strength that has further raised the strategic position of the DPRK should be etched into the annals of the country's history.

The tangible achievements which are now being made across the country including in the defence science sector are part of the brilliant fruition of the WPK's line of pushing economic construction and nuclear buildup simultaneously and its policy of attaching importance to science and technology, he said. And he attributed the success to the heroic Korean people who have faithfully supported the Party's cause with no vacillation even in the face of all trials of history.

In hearty congratulation, he had a group photograph taken against the backdrop of the giant launcher with the defence scientists, technicians, workers and officials, who demonstrated Juche Korea's dignity and prestige to the world once again through the successful test-fire.
