Onodera: Missile believed to be ICBMJapan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera says North Korea apparently fired an intercontinental ballistic missile at a steep angle known as a "lofted trajectory."
Onodera told reporters on Wednesday morning that the North launched a ballistic missile from the country's west coast at around 3:18 AM, Japan Time.
He said the missile reached an altitude of about 4,000 kilometers and traveled for 53 minutes, and is presumed to have fallen into Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.
He said the government has not received any reports of damage to ships.
The US Defense Department's media chief, Colonel Robert Manning, also said that North Korea appears to have launched an intercontinental ballistic missile.
