China warned on Tuesday that war on the Korean Peninsula will do no good to both sides, following an escalating war of words between Pyongyang and Washington recently.
"The US has explicitly denied that it has declared war on the DPRK," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said at a daily briefing on Tuesday. "The US also said that it will seek peaceful means to realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
On Monday, DPRK Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said US President Donald Trump has declared war on the North and that Pyongyang has every right to take countermeasures.
"There will be no winner in the war on the Korean peninsula, and we hope the US and the DPRK realize that resorting to military means would never be a viable way out," Lu said, adding that war would also bring great suffering to regional countries.
He then pointed out China's consistent position, saying that the Chinese side strongly opposes war and chaos on the Korean Peninsula, and expressed disapproval over the escalating of war of words between the US and the DPRK.
