Washington's alleged intention to create a NATO-like organization in Asia, involving South Korea and Japan, poses danger to stability in Northeast Asia, the North Korean Embassy in Russia said in a press release on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Pyongyang, the United States had already started deployment of 3,500 soldiers in South Korea and had informed the Japanese authorities about its intention to deploy 16 US F-35 fighter jets in Japan since 2017, the press release read.

"This is a part of a dangerous scenario, aimed at forming US-led Asian version of NATO," the embassy said in a press release sent to RIA Novosti, adding that establishment of a military bloc in the Northeast Asia would allow the United States to turn the region into the arena for military confrontation.

Pyongyang stressed, that the US strategy "poses danger to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region."

The embassy added that the United States intended to use the military alliance with Japan and South Korea to strengthen its influence in the region to contain DPRK, China and Russia.

In July, South Korea and the United States announced that they had agreed to deploy the US THAAD system, designed to intercept short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles at the terminal incoming stage, in the Seongju County amid increased tensions on the peninsula over North Korea's nuclear and missile program.

China and Russia are both opposed to the THAAD deployment, arguing the system could be applied beyond deterring North Korea and affect Chinese and Russian interests in the region. However, Japan expressed approval of the plan, stressing that THAAD deployment would contribute to establishing peace and stability in the region.
