Beijing consistently speaks up for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the protection of the peace and stability of the peninsula, and insists that the relevant issues be resolved through dialogue, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Beijing calls on Pyongyang and Seoul to work toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, Leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un said that his country had a hydrogen bomb and was ready to use it to protect its sovereignty.

'China's stance is clear and invariable, Beijing consistently speaks up for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the protection of the peace and stability of the peninsula, and insists that the relevant issues be resolved through dialogue,' Hua said.

She added that China hopes the two countries will do everything in their power to defuse tensions on the peninsula.

In 2003, Pyongyang withdrew from the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), a deal that was intended to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons manufacturing and possible use. In 2005, North Korea declared itself a nuclear power and conducted several nuclear weapon tests, sparking concerns in the international community.
