Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- The Andong 12th Infantry Division of the Korean People's Army (KPA) is well-known for having performed distinguished feats in the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War.
When advancing southward, the division made big contributions to liberating some areas of south Korea, including Hongchon, Hoengsong, Wonju and Jechon.
After liberating Yongju, the division attacked Andong, paving a way for other KPA units to cross the River Raktong.
The division was awarded the title of the Andong 12th Infantry Division on September 5, Juche 39 (1950) for displaying bravery and heroism in a battle to liberate Andong.
Among the KPA units which performed great feats in the war is the Guards 18th Infantry Regiment. The regiment contributed to achieving victory in the battle to annihilate the U.S. 'Smith commandos' in Osan area, after attending the battle to liberate Seoul.
The Guards 10th Infantry Regiment, Guards 86th Infantry Regiment and Guards 14th Infantry Regiment also demonstrated their power to achieve the victory in many battles.
The Guards 19th Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment played a big role in defending the Supreme Command, downing or damaging hundreds of enemy warplanes in the skies of Pyongyang.
The Guards 23rd Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment, too, shot down hundreds of enemy warplanes during the war.
