Nuclear Deterrence Guarantees Sovereignty: Rodong Sinmun
Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- The dear respected Kim Jong Un clarified in the March, 2013 plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea that the DPRK's nuclear deterrence is a means of justice for defending the sovereignty of the country and the nation, averting a war and safeguarding peace.
A bylined article of Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says that this is a valuable teaching that specified the position held by the nuclear deterrence in safeguarding the security of the country and the nation and stepping up the building of a thriving nation.
The U.S. lorded it over in the international arena in the past by dint of the "nuclear advantages", the article says, and goes on:
In the new century, the U.S. instigated the Central Intelligence Agency to massively spread the story of Iraq's "possession of weapons of mass destruction". In the end, it invaded and put under its control the country in disregard of the UN.
Those countries which styled themselves big powers failed to check the serious infringement on independence of a sovereign country and the life and security of the people by imperialist forces.
The U.S. high-handed and arbitrary practices have turned the world into a theatre where injustice stalks.
The nuclear-armed U.S. anti-DPRK moves can be foiled only with nukes and if one is possessed of powerful nuclear deterrence, one has nothing to be afraid of and can concentrate efforts on economic construction and improvement of people's living standard. This is a conclusion we have drawn.
The WPK laid out the line on simultaneously pushing forward economic construction and the building of nuclear force. This is the most just option in line with the requirements under the prevailing situation.
The DPRK will further spur the building of nuclear force and keep directing big efforts into economic construction based on it and thus build a thriving nation where people lead wealth and luxury under socialism, concludes the article.
