Rodong Sinmun Calls for Putting Interests Common to Nation above All
Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- It is necessary to place the interests common to the nation above all and subordinate everything to the work for meeting them in order to achieve national reunification at an early date through the unity of the nation. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a by-lined article.
Putting the interests common to the nation above all is an important requirement for achieving the unity of the Korean nation, the article notes, and goes on:
Those thinking of the interests of individuals and factions only, disregarding the nation's unity and those considering the relations with foreign forces more important than the issue of reunification can neither say they have national conscience nor claim they stand for national reunification.
In order to achieve the unity of the nation from the stand of subordinating everything to the interests common to the nation, it is imperative to firmly adhere to the idea of "By our nation itself".
After wresting power, regarding it as a priority task to "restore the relations" with the U.S., the south Korean conservative group is opposed to the idea of "By our nation itself" while regarding foreign forces more important than fellow countrymen.
The conservative group's moves against reunification threw the north-south relations which had favorably developed, guided by the above-said idea, into the worst crisis after the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration and laid a stumbling block in the way of achieving the unity of the nation.
If one pursues confrontation, regarding the differing ideologies and systems as absolute, utterly indifferent to the interests of the nation, it is impossible to improve the inter-Korean relations nor is it possible to achieve national concord and unity.
The DPRK is ready to treat and join hands with anyone who wishes to contribute to the cause of national reunification, valuing the interests of the nation with national conscience, on the principle of not digging into his or her past. This is its consistent stand.
