Singijongi, Multi-launch Weapon

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Among the Korean nation's heritages is a weapon called Singijongi which is considered to be the origin of multi-launch rocket system.

It, made in the early 15th century, is a weapon launching 100 arrows with fire wicks in a successive or simultaneous way.

The weapon installed on a cart consists of seven-layer main body, the lowest layer with 10 holes and others with 15 holes, and a foundation.

Each hole has a wooden launching tube. Iron plate covers the tube's inside to keep the tube from being aflame when arrows are launched.

A low stake is fixed vertically to the foundation so that the weapon can easily change its firing direction.

Firing angle is adjusted in a way of lifting up and down the cart.

Swords and spears are attached to the cart to prevent enemy's access to it.

The weapon displayed its might in battles against Japanese aggressors during the Imjin Patriot War (1592-1598).
