o According to an August 24 report, Kim Jong-il visited the 927 Chicken Farm. On August 24, North Korea held a central reporting rally marking the fiftieth anniversary of Kim Jong-il’s launch of military-first politics. On August 26, the country disclosed the details of flood damage sustained by the Shineuiju region.

o On August 25, North Korea reported former US President Jimmy Carter’s arrival in Pyongyang.
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o On August 23, North Korea released a “joint appeal to all Koreans” on the occasion of the centennial of the National Humiliation Day (August 29, 1910) when Korea was annexed to Japan through a coerced treaty.
