o Kim Jong-il attended a performance titled “Sanwoollim” (Mountain Rumbling) at Hamheung Grand Theatre on August 17.
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o On August 15, North Korea threatened a "ruthless response" to Ulchi Freedom Guardian, a South Korea-US joint military drill. On August 18, North Korea also instigated South Koreans to welcome the return of Han Sang-ryeol, a South Korean pastor who undertook an unauthorized trip to the North, through the truce village of Panmunjeom. On August 19, North Korea reported its seizure of a South Korean fishing boat named the Daeseung.
