o According to a July 19 report, Kim Jong-il watched a performance by members of the mobile art troupe of Pyongyang Textile Factory. North Korea’s Radio Pyongyang reported on July 22 that a mass gymnastics performance titled ‘Arirang’ would start from early August.
[Outside North Korea]
o On July 20, Choi Tae-bok, chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly, argued in his speech delivered in the third meeting of the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament that the 'sinking of the Cheonan, a South Korean naval corvette, is a scheme' against the country. North Korea’s Pibada Opera Company returned home on July 21 after presenting ‘Hongrumong’ in twelve cities in China.
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o In a July 24 statement by the spokesperson for its National Defense Commission, North Korea threatened that it would ‘retaliate against the ROK-US joint military exercise with its nuclear deterrence.'
