o Kim Jong-il watched a performance by the artistic propaganda troupe of the Military Unit 963, according to a June 2 report. North Korea also held a public rally in Pyongyang on May 30 in connection with the sinking of the Cheonan, a South Korean naval corvette.
o On June 2, Lee Je-gang, the First Deputy Director of the Organization and Guidance Department of the Korean Workers’ Party, was killed in a traffic accident.
[Outside North Korea]
o On June 4, the spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry urged the UN Security Council to receive an inspection team of the National Defense Commission concerning the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel.
