o On May 1, North Korea held a central reporting rally commemorating the 120th anniversary of May Day.
[Outside North Korea]
o Kim Jong-il visited China on May 3 - 7. He met with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o On May 4, North Korea issued a statement denouncing South Korea for the foiled debate on the so-called comfort women, or sex slaves to the Japanese military during World War II. On May 5, North Korea contended that South Korea’s arrest of would-be assassins of Hwang Jang-yeop, a former North Korean high-ranking official who defected to the South, was a 'self-fabricated story.'
