o On April 8, North Korea held a reporting rally commemorating the 17th anniversary of Kim Jong-il’s inauguration as the chairman of the National Defense Commission at April 25 Culture Hall.
[Outside North Korea]
o On April 5, North Korea denounced visits to the US and Japan by Hwang Jang-yeop, a former North Korean high-ranking government official who defected to South Korea. On the same day, North Korea urged the US to cooperate with the joint excavation of the remains of US soldiers killed during the Korean War, arguing that ‘the US should be held accountable for possible loss of the remains.’
o On April 4, North Korea contended that the South Korean armed forces made a military provocation in the DMZ. On April 8, North Korea announced its follow-up measures concerning its investigation into South Korea’s properties in the Mt. Geumgang tourism zone.
