o North Korea reported on March 25 that Kim Jong-il provided onsite guidance at Chonma Electrical Machinery Factory and Daeheungsan Machinery Factory.
[Outside North Korea]
o North Korea made a March 22 report on its decision to bring to trial a US citizen who illegally entered the country and a March 27 report on an official visit to the Gabonese Republic, Republic of Zambia, and Republic of Senegal by Kim Young-nam, chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium.
o In a statement issued by the spokesperson for its Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, North Korea warned that ‘North Korean defectors who plot against the country will be placed highest on the list of offenders to be punished’ (March 23 report), and made a scathing criticism in the name of the spokesperson for the Korean People’s Army General Staff that ‘South Korea and the US are maneuvering to subvert the North Korean government based on discussions of a possible upheaval’ (March 26 report).
