Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Pak Kil Yon, who headed the DPRK delegation to the 65th meeting of the UN General Assembly, made an address at an annual meeting of NAM Foreign Ministers that was held on the sidelines of the general assembly on Sept. 27.

The agenda of the meeting reflected the common will of the member nations to intensify the non-aligned movement at present, he said, clarifying opinion on it.

NAM should strengthen the support and solidarity with the member nations in their efforts for defending sovereignty, he said, underscoring the need to increase the movement's ability of taking collective action on the UN arena.

The developments on the Korean Peninsula are arousing great concerns among the member nations of the NAM and the world, he said, and continued:

The reality is a clear reminder of the validity of DPRK's access to a powerful war deterrent and the urgency of establishing peace mechanism on the peninsula.

The DPRK proposed parties to the Korean Armistice Agreement to hold talks for replacing the AA with a peace accord this year, six decades since the outbreak of the Korean war.

The proposal for concluding the peace agreement was aimed to remove the root cause of posing constant threat to the peace and stability of the region and establish durable peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula.

He expressed expectation that the member nations of the NAM would correctly understand the essence of the grave situation prevailing on the peninsula and extend firm support and solidarity to the Korean people in their efforts to defend the sovereignty of the country and the fundamental idea of the NAM in the future, too.
