Strengthened Non-Aligned Movement Called for

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) constitutes the main driving force for building a new independent world and the most powerful independent force against imperialism in the present era, and it is necessary to steadily expand and develop the NAM whose truth and might have been proved through revolutionary practices.

Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a signed article.

The NAM should continue to advance holding high the banner of independence and peace against imperialism and war, the article says, and goes on:

Only through the intensified struggle for peace against imperialism can the non-aligned and developing countries consolidate their national independence, achieve their independent development and progress and realize the noble idea and purpose of the NAM.

The non-aligned countries should collectively reject the application of double standards by the imperialist powers and their policy of discrimination.

They should firmly unite and solidarize in the field of politics on the principle of independence.

It is an important way for consolidating unity and solidarity of the NAM and settling difficult and complicated issues arising in building new society for the non-aligned countries to closely cooperate with each other in economic and technological fields. To expand and develop South-South cooperation based on the principle of collective self-reliance is the only way for ensuring the independent development and socio-economic progress, free from the imperialists' economic pressure, exploitation and plunder.

As a dignified member of the NAM, the DPRK will fulfill its responsibility and role to firmly defend the fundamental principle of the NAM and its idea and purity and steadily strengthen and develop it, the article concludes.
