NK criticizes President Lee’s 8.15 congratulatory speech.

North Korea criticized President Lee for proposing the “unification tax” in his congratulatory speech on August 15. The North insisted that the idea was “very unsavory” because it was aimed at preparing for a sudden collapse of the North Korean regime or unification by absorbing the North. NK evaluates the first half of President Lee’s five-year term.

North Korea blasted that the first half of President Lee’s five-year term was  a long nightmare to South Korean people and the days filled with  disillusion and indignation to all Korean people. (Rodong Sinmun, Korean Central News Agency, Korean Central Television on August 27)

Former U.S. President Carter visits North Korea

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter visited the North from August 25 to 27. He met with Kim Young-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly to win a release of a detained American citizen, Aijalon Gomes and came back to the U.S. with him.  (Korean Central Television, Chosun Shinbo on August 25, 27)

North Korea continues to blame Japan in relation to the “Korea-Japan annexation treaty”

North Korea blamed Japan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the “Korea-Japan annexation treaty” through a joint appeal of the “Korean Social Democratic Party” of the North and the “Democratic Labor Party” of the South, a spokesperson’s statement of the “DPRK Committee for Investigation of Damage Caused by the Japanese”, and a joint declaration of the “Committee for Implementation of the 6.15 Joint Declaratio,” and so on.
