Medvedev calls for peaceful solution to Korean crisis
MOSCOW, June 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday he hopes to see a peaceful settlement of the situation on the Korean peninsula, worsened recently by the sinking of a South Korean warship in an alleged attack by the North.
"We hope the situation on the Korean Peninsula...will be settled peacefully and in the interests of preserving stability in the region and continuing dialogue between the two Koreas," Medvedev said.
The 1,200-ton warship sank near the disputed Northern Limit Line in the Yellow Sea on March 26, causing the loss of 46 lives. An international investigation concluded the explosion, which broke the ship into two pieces, was caused by a North Korean torpedo fired from a submarine. Pyongyang has denied its involvement.
President Dmitry Medvedev sent military experts to South Korea on Monday to inspect the wreckage of the ship.
