Kim Jong Il Issues Order on Raising Military Ranks

Pyongyang, April 14 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il Wednesday issued Order No. 0045 on raising the military ranks of commanding officers of the KPA.
In the order he said that the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK which President Kim Il Sung founded and led along the road of one victory after another have grown to be a matchless revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu pervaded with the spirit of devotedly defending the leader under the Songun leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, fully displaying its might as a driving force of revolution in defending the country and building a thriving socialist nation.
Expressing belief that the commanding officers of the KPA would in the future, too, firmly defend the security of the country and the revolutionary cause of Juche with arms and creditably discharge their honorable mission and duty as a driving force for the revolution, remaining true to the leadership of the Party, he ordered to raise their military ranks on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.
The order noted that the military rank of U Tong Chuk, Jong Myong Do, Ri Pyong Chol and Jong Ho Gyun is promoted to general, that of Choe Kyong Song, Choe Sang Ryo, Han Chang Sun, Jon Chang Bok and O Chol San to colonel general, that of Ri Ju Hong, Kim Su Gil and six others to lieutenant general and that of Ham Ryong Chol, Son Kyong Bok and 81 others to major general.
