April Spring People's Art Festival Opens

Pyongyang, April 11 (KCNA) -- The Second April Spring People's Art Festival was opened with due ceremony at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on Sunday.
The festival brought together professional artistes of nearly 70 art troupes, overseas Korean artistes, members of art squads and itinerant art squads and other working people.
Present at the opening ceremony were Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Jung Rin and Kim Ki Nam, Vice-Premier of the Cabinet O Su Yong, Minister of Culture An Tong Chun who doubles as chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee, officials concerned, artistes and working people.
Screened on the background of the stage were historic scenes showing the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung and General Secreatry Kim Jong Il who devoted their all for the development of Juche-based arts.
An Tong Chun said in an opening address that the festival would prove to be a significant one where its participants would enthusiastically sing songs lauding the sun, reflecting the ardent yarning of the Korean people for President Kim Il Sung and boundless national honor and pride of holding the peerless great man in high esteem.
He referred to the fact that Kim Jong Il, possessed of the noble sense of moral obligation towards the President, provided the April Spring People's Art Festival, realizing the wishes of the Korean people to sing songs praising the great man for all ages and wisely leading the work to ensure that the festival is held with splendor.
He expressed the belief that the festival would add to the people's joy of commemorating the Day of the Sun and contribute to stirring up the festive atmosphere of April.
Then followed an art performance.
