Working Class Called upon to Increase Its Vanguard Role

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday editorially calls upon the working class to usher in a great heyday for Songun Korea by taking the lead in effecting a great surge, united close around General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The working class is the vanguard steering the era of great surge and a mainstay for building an economic power, the editorial says, and goes on:

It was the working class that played a vanguard role in bringing about a great surge as it built a socialist power from scratch in the post-war period by dashing ahead at the speed of Chollima in hearty response to the call of President Kim Il Sung. It was again the working class which brought about miracles and innovations, ushering in a great heyday in the era of the Workers' Party by loudly sounding the revolution. The working class in the DPRK is strong in faith as it emerged victorious in the "Arduous March" by building up national defence industry of Songun despite the worst adversity.

It is making a breakthrough in the heroic advance to open the gate to a great prosperous and powerful nation, holding high the torch of a new great revolutionary surge kindled by Kim Jong Il.

The workers of the Songjin Steel Complex completed the Juche iron production system last year which witnessed dramatic changes to be specially recorded in the history of the country. Those of the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex are bringing about a steady boost in production in the van of the drive for a significant improvement in the people's standard of living this year. The heroic workers in the field of vinalon industry brought a great auspicious event to the whole country by building a modern vinalon factory.

These eye-opening realities represent the laudable successes which can be made only by the working class under the uplifted slogan "When the Party is determined, we can do anything!"

The editorial stresses the need for the working class to turn out as one in hearty response to the call of the Party and dash ahead in the van of the on-going drive for radically improving the people's standard of living with the same vim and vigor with which it brought about great innovations and leap forward in the 150-day and 100-day campaigns to successfully materialize the plan of the Party to build a thriving nation.
