Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il made public a famous work, "Let Us Turn Pyongyang, Capital of the Revolution, into a Magnificent City of the People," on March 18, Juche 64 (1975).
In the work he, noting Pyongyang is not only the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea but the holy land of revolution, said that the Juche-oriented architectural idea of the Workers' Party of Korea should be applied thoroughly in the construction of Pyongyang and that many modern dwellings, public establishments, parks and pleasure grounds should be built in the city for the people.
He underscored the need to mechanize and modernize construction work and create new methods of construction and called on broad masses of people to take part in the capital city construction.
Since the work was published, enormous efforts for facelifting Pyongyang have been made. Many streets, including Changgwang, Kwangbok and Thongil Streets, mushroomed and radical changes have been brought about in construction and people's living standard in the capital.
The Mansudae Art Theatre, Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, Changgwang Health Complex, Ice Rink and many other monumental edifices of the WPK era were constructed and the Pyongyang Grand Theatre, Moranbong Theatre, Taedongmun Cinema and other entertainment facilities reconstructed.
Some time ago tens of multi-storied apartment buildings, public buildings, various welfare service amenities, a wooded area and park came into being in Mansudae Street to provide a model for the construction of 100,000 dwellings which will appear in Pyongyang within a few years.
