Story of Kim Il Sung

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, March 15 (KCNA) -- One day in March Juche 49 (1960), President Kim Il Sung convened a conference of agricultural scientists and technicians and underscored the need to do two-crop farming a year in order to sharply increase overall agricultural production.

After the conference, all the cooperative farms throughout the country began to raise two crops a year but faced some difficulties.

So the President convened a conference again.

He told the conference that per-hectare grain yield could be increased through the development of chemical industry and mass-production of fertilizers but that was not enough for a solution to the food shortage. He then said two-crop farming was necessary to this end.

He also said there was a way for solving the water problem arising in two-crop farming and that he tested the water-sprinkling system in recent years to find its good effect so that he was confident the system was proper to two-crop farming.
