North Korean Media reported Kim Jong-il’s public activities for seven times from January 25 to January 31 in 2010.
NK, holding an expanded “cabinet meeting”
North Korea held an expanded “cabinet meeting” to discussed the unity for people’s economic plan 2009 and 150-day, 100-day campaign goal. The ways to achieve this year’s tasks in the New Year’s joint editorial were also discussed. (Korean Central News Agency on Jan.29)
Promotion on factories and enterprises
North Korea promotes that in the all factories, enterprises and science institutes, people are making good results to definitely change the livelihood of people through modernizing technologies in the light industry, agriculture and medical sector. Call for shift in the South’s NK policy
North Korea persisted that South’s confrontational NK policy made inter-Korean relationship a vicious cycle of conflicts and tensions. It also consistently called for shift in the South’s NK policy. (Rodong Sinmun, Korean Central Television on Jan 25 to Jan 28)
Issue “an appeal to all Korean people”
The North Korean Committee for Implementation of the 6.15 Joint Declaration hosted the general assembly (Jan. 26) and issued “an appeal to all Korean people” which calls for designating this year as “the year to usher in a new horizon for national unification,” since this year marks the 10th anniversary of the 6.15 Joint Declaration.” (Korean Central News Agency, Korean Central Television)
NK, declaring “no-sail zone” and firing artilleries
North Korea declared “no-sail zone” in waters near the NLL on Jan 25 and fired a series of coastal artilleries in the northern area of the NLL. It also claimed in the report of the General Staff that annual firing exercises using live ammunition were being carried out. (Jan 27 to Jan 29)
