[Inside North Korea]
o On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the North Korean Workers’ Party, Kim Jong-il watched a celebratory performance by the Eunhasu Orchestra, Mansudae Art Troupe, and Samjiyeon Band, according to a KCNA report on October 10.
[Outside North Korea]
o In a Rodong Sinmun article on October 14, North Korea contended, "Conclusion of a North Korea-U.S. peace agreement is the only way that can lead to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o In a Rodong Sinmun article on October 14, North Korea argued that it was willing to improve inter-Korean relations by such means as resumption of the Mt. Geumgang and Gaeseong tourism projects. In a Rodong Sinmun article on October 17, however, the country denounced the South Korea-US joint military exercise as an ‘intentional provocation undermining inter-Korean relations.’
