o Following a tour of Kim Jungsuk Naval University (Central Television report on August 12), Kim Jong-il provided guidance at the Songdowon Open Theater for Youths (KCNA report on August 13) and watched a performance by an art group of Military Unit 974 (KCNA report on August 13).
o This year’s first Arirang performance opened at the May 1 Stadium, Pyongyang on August 10.
[Outside North Korea]
o On August 11, the US put North Korea’s Gwangseon Bank on the list of the entities subject to financial sanctions on charges of involvement in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
[Inter-Korean Issues]
o Concerning South Korea’s launch of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1) or Naro-1, North Korea contended on August 10 that it would "closely watch whether countries participating in the six-party talks will submit this issue before the UN Security Council."
