[Inside North Korea]
o On April 5, North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, “Kim Jong-il visited the Pyongyang general satellite control and command center and watched the whole process of launch of Gwangmyungsung II.” On April 7, it said, "Kim Jong-il provided, for a long time, on-site guidance for the Samilpo Special Product Plant and Store in Pyongyang operated by the military."
o On April 8, North Korea held a central reporting rally commemorating the 16th anniversary of Kim Jong-il’s appointment as the chairman of the National Defense Commission at the April 25 Culture Hall. On April 9, the country convened the 1st session of the 12th-term Supreme People’s Assembly and reappointed Kim Jong-il as the chairman. In addition, the country made partial amendments in its constitution along with an organizational and hierarchical reshuffle, which marked the official launch of the 3rd-term Kim Jong-il regime.

o On April 5, KCNA reported, “Gwangmyungsung II, an artificial satellite, was successfully launched into orbit by an Eunha II carrier rocket.”
