Results of 2008 Census Made Public

Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) -- A national conference on 2008 census took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Wednesday.

Present there were Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the State Planning Commission, and officials concerned, Jerome Sauvage, U.N. resident coordinator and concurrently resident representative of the UNDP to the DPRK, and other representatives of international organizations and diplomatic envoys of different countries here.

Ro Tu Chol said at the conference that the successfully concluded census would be helpful to the adoption of the state policy and the social, economic and cultural development of the country.

Jerome Sauvage made a congratulatory address there.

Then followed the public presentation of how the 2008 census was conducted and its results.

According to data available, the population of the DPRK stood at over 24,000,000 as of October 1, 2008.

Speeches on the results of the 2008 census were made at the conference.
