Kim Jong Il Inspects Cattle Farm of KPA Unit

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the July 18 Cattle Farm under KPA Unit 580.

The farm built on an area of more than 20,000 square meters thanks to the devoted efforts of KPA soldiers is a large stockbreeding center mass-producing beef.

After being briefed on the farm before a huge map showing its panoramic view, Kim Jong Il went round cattle sheds, fodder silos and other places of the farm to acquaint himself in detail with its technical equipment and cattle raising there.

He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the soldiers of the unit and employees of the farm have successfully built the cattle farm by their own efforts and rapidly increased the meat production by actively tapping latent reserves, prompted by their patriotic desire to give even a little help to the country, and highly praised their feats.

Seeing herds of cattle move, he said that the head of cattle has increased dozens of times today, packing a valley with them, though there were only a small number of them even a few years ago. He repeatedly praised the employees of the farm for having brought about an amazing change through their indefatigable efforts.

The KPA soldiers intensely loyal to the Party, the revolution, the country and the people have built many great structures in the era of Songun including modern stockbreeding centers and fish breeding centers in different parts of the country, thus laying a firm foundation for building a thriving nation, confident of a rosy future even under the difficult conditions where everything was in short supply, he said, adding that these shining achievements are the laudable feats which can be performed only by the army of the DPRK, defender of the country and creator of the people's happiness.

He advanced important tasks which would serve as guidelines for managing and operating the farm.

This farm has favorable conditions for rapidly boosting the livestock products as it is situated in a good place and has a vast area of pasture and is rich in water resource, he said, underscoring the need to further consolidate the existing production foundation and, at the same time, build more modern branch farms in various areas to develop the farm into a large stockbreeding center.

The experience of the recently built farms proves that in order to increase the efficiency of investment in stock-breeding it is most profitable to breed domestic animals growing fast and weighing heavy, he said, underscoring the need to pay deep attention to the research and development of breeding cattle suited to the topographical features and introducing them to production.

He noted that in order to keep the production of livestock products going at a high rate it is necessary to tenaciously push forward the work to build fodder bases including pasture, raise the fertility of fodder fields and drastically increase the yield and, at the same time, positively find out and use fodder sources to sufficiently provide a variety of fodder suited to the physiological features of domestic animals.

The most important guarantee for rapidly increasing the meat production is to put all the production processes of the farm on an industrial and scientific basis, he said, stressing the need to pay primary attention to it.

To this end, it is essential to intensify scientific researches and, at the same time, widely introduce advanced technology and steadily raise the level of the technical skill of officials, workers and technicians, he added.

Our country has conditions favorable for breeding grass-eating domestic animals in a big way in view of its geographic features, he noted, calling for minutely organizing the work to ensure that the existing stock-breeding centers pay off profusely and, at the same time, building more such centers and thus bring about a drastic turn in improving people's diet.

He expressed great expectation and conviction that the employees of the farm would display all their creative ingenuity and enthusiasm and effect a fresh turn in the livestock production in the spirit of devoted service for the people.

He was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae, Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army, Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors of the WPK Central Committee Pak Nam Gi, Kim Kyong Hui and Jang Song Thaek.
