Kim Jong-Il’s public appearance during the third week of June – From June 15 th to 21 st , North Korean media reported Kim Jong-Il’s public appearance for once.
North Korean farms finished rice-planting for cultivation area and started to harvest barleys and wheat – The North reported that planting rice on basic cultivation area was finished and that harvesting for barleys and wheat had started from North Hwanghae Province . (June 13 th~16 th, KCNA)
The trend related to the 45 th anniversary for Kim Jong-Il’s start of participating in the Party – The North proceeded numerous celebrations such as Central Report Rally at the 4.25 Culture Centre in order to celebrate the 45 th anniversary for the day (June 19 th, 1964) of which Kim Jong-Il’s start of participating in the Party on June 18 th.
The trend regarding China-North trade in April, 2009 – According to the maritime customs of China , the total sum of the amount of China-North trade in April of 2009 was 197.1 million Dollars.
Inter-Korean Affairs
The North announced the report by the Secretariat of Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland – While announcing the report by the Secretariat of Committee for Peaceful Unification of the Fatherland, the North denounced “South Korean scheme of military confrontation.” (June 19 th, KCNA)
The North broadcasted the progress report for the 2 nd working-level talks regarding the Gaeseong Industrial Complex (GIC) – the North reported that “the inter-Korean working-level talks for amending the GIC contract” had progressed. (June 19 th, KCNA)
Foreign Affairs
The North argued for the legitimacy for its nuclear deterrent once again – The North argued that intensifying the nuclear deterrent is necessary due to the threat of the U.S. and Japan which pursue a nuclear war. The North also argued that the South-U.S. summit talk, which was held recently, is the ground for intensification of the nuclear deterrent.
