Kim Jong-Il’s public appearance during the third week of April – From April 13 th to 19 th, North Korean media reported Kim Jong-Il’s public appearance for once.
Kim Jong-Il’s attendance at the 1 st round of the 12 th Supreme People’s Assembly – On April 9 th, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il attended the 1 st round of the 12 th Supreme People’s Assembly and was reelected as the leader at the Assembly.
Affairs related to Kim Il-Sung’s 97 th Birthday – On the 97 th anniversary for Kim Il-Sung’s birthday (April 15 th, 1912), the North opened numerous celebration events including Central Report Rally at Pyongyang Gymnasium.
Sam-il-po Indigenous Industry’s propagation of achievement of technology innovation – The North propagated the current production status and outcome of technological innovation at Sam-il-po Indigenous Industry for being a paragon of fulfilling Light Industry Revolutionary Policy (April 13 th, Rodong Newspaper).
Inter-Korean Affairs
The report by the Secretariat of the Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland criticizing the aviation of combat flight exchange between the South and the U.S. – The North criticized the aviation event of which the commanders of the South and the U.S. exchanged their jet fighters and denounced it as a public hostile action through the report by the Secretariat of the Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland. (April 17 th, KCNA)
The North Korean spokesperson of the General Staff Office warning the South Korean government’s full participation in PSI – Through press conference by the spokesperson from General Staff Office of the DPRK National Defense with KCNA, the North, again, emphasized that the South Korean government’s policies about sanctions related to the North Korean missile test and participation in PSI are the actions of declaration of a war; furthermore, the North threatened, “Seoul is located about 50 km from the military demarcation line.” (April 18 th, KCNA)
Foreign Affairs
The North’s strong opposition such as the statement by Foreign Ministry rejecting the statement of the UN Security Council’s presidential statement – The North rejected the statement of the UN Security Council’s presidential statement with respect to the North Korean missile launch, while issuing the Foreign Ministry’s statement presenting withdrawal from the six party talk; and it also criticized that the UN Security Council’s presidential statement is ignoring a sovereign state’s right to establishing developmental plan.
The North’s claim for the U.S. media’s criticism on the North its infringement upon human rights – The North criticized that the U.S. enhanced a psychological warfare through media such as Voice of America and asserted that the U.S. is leading the violation of human rights, while citing Spain’s recent investigation on the U.S.’ Guantanamo Prison.
The North ’s criticism on Japan ’s enhancing sanctions against the North and Japan ’s attempt for military countermeasure – The North criticized Japan for enhancing the sanctions against the North such as extending one more year for the sanction and for attempting military countermeasures including shooting-down of future rockets by the North.
