【Inside North Korea】

o On November 23, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service said, “This year, the ideological, technological and cultural revolution was pursued more vigorously around the nation, leading to over 1,100 units capturing three major revolutionary red flags one to three times. More than 100,000 workers, farmers and intellectuals had the honor of becoming bearers of three major revolutionary red flags.” It propagandized, “Workers in many units, including the transportation division of East Pyongyang Thermal Power Plant and the mining division of Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, enjoyed the honor of becoming bearers of three major revolutionary red flags.”

o On November 27, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, “Political staff at provincial and central agencies are honoring the combatant process set forth in the joint editorial and providing powerful support for the iron front.” It also said, “Workers at the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Fuel Oil Guidance Bureau located many sources of scrap iron in a short period by visiting lower units and setting examples for the public with a strong sense of responsibility as members of the revolutionary command.”

【Outside North Korea】

o On November 25, the North Korean Central News Agency said, “The Sports Guidance Committee of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the State Administration of Physical Culture and Sports of the People’s Republic of China signed a protocol on sports exchanges for 2009 in Pyongyang on November 25.” It went on to say, “The signing ceremony was attended by chairman of the Sports Guidance Committee Park Hak-seon and workers in related fields (for North Korea) and a delegation of the State Administration of Physical Culture and Sports headed by director Liu Peng and Chinese ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to North Korea Liu Xiaoming (for China).”

【Inter-Korean Issues】

o On November 24, the North Korean Central News Agency reported, “We notified South Korea that we would take stringent initial measures to strictly block all overland transport across the Military Demarcation Line from December 1 in order to counter the South Korean government’s maneuvers toward confrontation with our republic.” It underscored, “We will selectively deport staff and vehicles deployed by government-related organizations and companies in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex and the Mt. Geumgang Tourism District and sever overland transport across the Military Demarcation Line. We will completely discontinue South Korean citizens’ tours to Gaeseong carried out across the Military Demarcation Line of the West Sea District and ban the operation of South Korean trains traveling between Bongdong and Munsan.”
