o On November 9, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported, “The newly renovated and superbly organized Central Zoo located at the foot of Mount Daeseong will proactively contribute to enhancing the cultural life of workers, youngsters and students.” It also said, “The aquarium at the zoo has well-decorated small and large fish tanks suited to the ecological characteristics of aquatic animals, and are equipped with latest filtration devices.”
o On November 10, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, “Each and every worker and miner at the Coal Mining Complex in the Bukchang District stands resolute in the struggle to increase coal production.” It added, “Despite many difficulties and hurdles, workers are dauntlessly engaging in economic planning and management with unyielding determination to significantly expand coal production.”
o On November 11, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station said, “Workers and transporters at the Gaecheon Railways Bureau are pursuing a vigorous struggle to uphold the spirit of the New Year’s Joint Editorial, which will dramatically improve the basic industries that make up the core of the people’s economy.” It went on to say, “Workers are independently producing materials that are in short supply and carrying out regular railroad repair and maintenance with the ambitious goal of ensuring that all railways under their control fully meet applicable standards.”
o On November 13, the North Korean Central News Agency reported, “All families in North Korea are now preparing kimchi for the winter season in a traditional fashion.” It added, “Kimchi, a traditional food of the country, has been widely popular among the Korean people as part of their daily diet. Koreans began to cultivate vegetable ages ago and have incorporated them into their diet in many ways.”
