【Inside North Korea】

o On September 28, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station (KCBS) said, “Officials at Chongjin Medical University are proceeding with projects designed based on a specific understanding of its faculty’s quality improvement plans, and the officials themselves stand at the frontline in these projects aimed at improving capabilities in science and technology and foreign language acquisition,” adding, “The university is directing its faculty’s attention to foreign language skills, which are requisite for the acquisition of advanced medical skills.”

【Outside North Korea】

o On September 30, the North Korean International Broadcasting Service said, “At the 18th International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) congress recently held in Uzbekistan, Pyongyang was selected as the only candidate host city for the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships,” also reporting, “The ITF officials and representatives from almost 60 countries who were attending the congress expressed ardent support for and consent to Pyongyang’s hosting of the 17th World Taekwondo Championships in 2011 as the city is the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, a country that gave birth to the martial arts.”

o On October 1, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station (KCBS) said, “At a meeting of the foreign affair ministers of the Group of 77 held at the UN headquarters on September 26 during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly, North Korean Ambassador to the UN Park Kil-yon said that the Group of 77 should press ahead with firm policy guidelines aimed at the expansion and development of South-South cooperation, and then stressed that the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will remain faithful to its responsibilities and duties in further expanding and developing South-South collaboration based on collective self-renewal, as well as in forging a new international economic order founded on justice, equality and fairness.”
