Internal Affairs

  • Chosun Shinbo published the business, accomplishments and recent development of Chosun International Trust Company on September 9.
  • The DPRK commenced the 20 th annual Pyongyang International Film Festival on September 17 and it is scheduled to proceed until September 26.
  • Central Broadcasting Station, September 17
  • The North Korean authority published an editorial titled “Let’s Move to Full Throttle for the Autumn Reaping” in Rodong Daily on September 15 and reported that the harvesting had started in rural area of the Southern Hangyeong Province through Central Broadcasting Station on September 18.
  • Kim Jong-il has disappeared from official events for more than a month, while North Korean media delivered the news about the messages of congratulation and gratitude sent by the Chairman and praised his great work.
  • The North Korean authority reported, “We are making vigorous efforts to advance the start-up of Yeongwon Power Plant.

Inter-Korean Affairs

  • The DPRK criticized the South Korean government for allegedly suppressing the South Korean people as harshly as in the days of the dictatorial governments in a program titled “Fascists Far Worse than Dictators.”

Foreign Affairs

  • The DPRK continued criticizing Japan for evading the liquidation of the past and its movement for outward expansion such as the increase in the national defense budget through commentaries published in Democratic Chosun, Rodong Daily, and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services.
  • The DPRK criticized the U.S. ’s military pressure on North Korea as shown in the ROK-U.S. joint military exercise and anti-North Korea policy through commentaries published in state media including Rodong Daily and Central Broadcasting Station.
  • The North Korean authority declared the restoration of its nuclear facilities at the Central Broadcasting Station press conference on September 19. It also demanded the U.S. ’s forward-looking attitude on the nuclear issue through a commentary published in Chosun Shinbo on September 17.
