Internal Affairs

North Korea reported that it would hold a “National Fair of Youth’s Science and Technology Achievement” at the Three Revolution Exhibition Hall, Pyongyang from August 13 to 20 in order to celebrate the North Korean Youth Day.

North Korea held a “National Science and Technology Showcase” at the Three Revolution Exhibition Hall from August 12 to 13 in order to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of the regime’s establishment. Factory workers, scientists, technicians and representatives from science research institutes and educational organizations participated in the event.

North Korea published a commentary titled ‘The Great Leader’s Contribution to the Liberation of Korea will Remain Forever in the Korean History” in Rodong Sinmun in order to celebrate the 63 rd anniversary of the Great Fatherland Liberation War.

According to China Customs, the total amount of trade between China and North Korea during the first half of 2008 amounts to 1.151 billion dollars, a 25% increase from the same period last year.

 

Inter-Korean Affairs

North Korea delivered to South Korea a written letter signed by the North Korean military personnel who is in charge of the South and North Korean control zone in the East Sea area, as it notified the return of South Korean vessels and its crew.

Foreign Affairs

North Korea criticized the U.S. ’s restrains on North Korea including the “National Defense Strategy” report through commentaries published in Rodong Sinmun.

North Korea announced the results from the Japan-North Korea meetings held from August 11 to 12 and expressed its stance on them through reports and commentaries published in Chosun Shinbo.
