Kim Jong Il Enjoys Performance Given by Russian Dancing Troupe

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il appreciated a performance given by the State Academy Beryozka Dancing Troupe of Russia Named after N.S. Nadezhdina on a visit to the DPRK.
Kim Jong Il was greeted at a theatre by Mira Koltsova, head of the dancing troupe, and Alexander Matsegora, Russian charge d' affaires ad interim here.
Kim Jong Il expressed thanks to the artistes of the dancing troupe for encouraging the Korean people in their drive to greet the 60th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK with shining labor achievements through their enthusiastic performances and had a cordial talk with the Russian guests.
The dancing troupe with a long history and tradition raised the curtain with chorus "Song of General Kim Jong Il." It staged colorful numbers such as female group dance "Beryozka", male group dance "Jokers", mixed group dances "In Memory of the Defenders of the Motherland" and "Vast Plain", comic dance "Old Bachelors", solo dance "Recollection", dance suite "This Happened Long Ago," songs and dances "Beryozka", "The Evening in the Suburbs of Moscow", "Katyusha" and "Flower-Strewn Brink of Marsh" from the revolutionary opera "Tell the Story, Forest".
In their performance the artistes truthfully represented the Russian people's ardent love for the country, optimistic and diligent life and national custom with refined artistry and graceful and enthusiastic rhythms.
The performance closed with chorus of Korean song "The General of Korea".
He congratulated the artistes on their successful performance and extended his greetings to them.
The head of the dancing troupe, reflecting the unanimous reverence of all the artistes for him, expressed warmest thanks to him for watching their performance and showing deep interest in their art creation activities.
Among the audience were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su, servicepersons, creators and artistes of the army and society.
