Kim Jong Il Enjoys Art Performance Given by Russian State Chorus

Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong I enjoyed an art performance given by the Russian State Academic People's Chorus Named after M. E. Pyatnichki on a visit to the DPRK.
He was greeted at a theater by Aleksandra Permyakova, head of the chorus, and Valery Sukhinin, Russian ambassador to the DPRK.
He warmly welcomed the visit of the chorus to the DPRK and thanked for the joy and encouragement given by its artistes to the people of the DPRK through a series of its enthusiastic performances before having a cordial talk with them.
The chorus, which has a 97 year-long history and tradition, put on the stage colorful numbers newly created by it including dance "At Evening and Middle of Night", choruses "Russia, the Motherland", "May My Voice Reverberate" and "Along the Mother River Volga", chorus and dance "To Our Katsya", female chorus and instrumental music "At the Side of the River Don", male vocal solo "White Birches", glee "Something Urgent Has Happened," dance "Jokers of Belgorod Region", instrumental music "Polka of Russia", chorus and dance "Russian Fun."
The performance made a truthful artistic representation of patriotism and optimistic life of the Russian people.
He congratulated the artistes on their successful performance and extended greetings to them.
Among the audience were Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK Kim Ki Nam, First Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Sok Ju, Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su, KPA servicepersons and creators and artistes of the army and society.
