First National Art Festival Commemorating Day of Sun Closes

   Pyongyang, April 19 (KCNA) -- The First National Art Festival Commemorating the Day of the Sun was closed with due ceremonies.
    The festival was held at over 10 theatres, halls and music halls in Pyongyang, divided into the national professional art festival, the national art agitation squad festival, the national itinerant art squad festival and the national working people's art festival.
    The closing ceremonies of professional and non-professional groups took place at the Central Youth Hall and the People's Palace of Culture on April 19.
    Present at the ceremonies were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture who is chairman of the festival organizing committee, leading officials of working people's organizations, officials concerned and national and local art organizations and artistes and members of itinerant art squads and members of working people's art groups and working people in the city.
    The closing performances were followed by awarding ceremonies.
    In the professional group, the festival prize for organization went to 10 units including the Art Troupe of the North Hamgyong Province and the art troupe of Koreans in Japan, the ensemble prize to 29 art works, the prize for creation to 19 participants and the prize for individuals to 47 artistes.
    In the non-professional group, the festival prize for organization went to 17 units including the National Youth Art Squad and the itinerant art squad of the Pyongyang Bureau of Railways, the ensemble prize to 29 art works, the prize for creation to 42 participants in the festival and the prize for individual to 45 participants.
    Closing speeches were made by Kang Nung Su and Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of the Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea.
    The speakers stressed that the festival fully demonstrated the unshakable will of the people to work harder for the prosperity of the country, united close behind leader Kim Jong Il with the firm faith that President Kim Il Sung will always be with them.
