Publication Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed

Pyongyang, April 17 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang meeting took place at the Central Youth Hall on Thursday to mark the 10th publication anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's celebrated work "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation".
In the work, published on April 18, 1998, Kim Jong Il elaborated on the undying exploits President Kim Il Sung performed for the reunification of the country after advancing the unique idea of great national unity.
He also indicated the ways for achieving the national reunification, clarifying that the driving forces for national reunification are the Korean nation and the cause of reunification is to rejoin the severed blood ties of the nation, divided into the north and the south, and realize its unity.
Expounded in the work is the five-point policy for great national unity that calls for achieving the unity of the entire nation on the basis of the principle of national independence and under the banner of patriotism and national reunification and improving the north-south relations, struggling against outside forces' domination and subjugation and anti-reunification forces and positively ensuring visits and contacts, dialogue and solidarity and alliance among members of the nation at home and abroad in order to achieve great national unity.
Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), made a report at the meeting.
The reporter recalled that Kim Jong Il opened up a bright vista for the reunification of Korea and has wisely led the struggle for its realization. And he stressed the need to creditably defend the Juche-oriented idea of great national unity and feats of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and wage more dynamic struggle for national reunification under the Songun leadership of the WPK.
All the Koreans at home and abroad including the south Korean people should struggle against the moves of the U.S. fostering antagonism and discord among them and aggravating the situation and remove every source of hindering the national unity and peace and reunification of the country, the reporter said, and went on:
The entire Korean nation should turn out in the vigorous struggle against the anti-reunification and anti-DPRK moves of the pro-American conservatives who are driving the north-south relations to acute confrontation and irreversible catastrophic crisis, swimming against the trend of the June 15 era of independent reunification.
Among those present at the meeting were Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, Ryu Mi Yong, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Korean Chondoist Chongu Party, Kim Wan Su, director of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, and An Kyong Ho, director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.
