Session of DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Held

    Pyongyang, April 9 (KCNA) -- The Sixth Session of the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.
    Present at the session were deputies to the SPA.
    Also on hand as observers were officials of party, armed forces and power organs, social organizations, ministries and national institutions and officials in the fields of science, education, culture and arts, public health and media.
    The session discussed the following agenda items: "1. On the review of the work of the DPRK Cabinet in Juche 96 (2007) and its tasks for Juche 97 (2008)" and "2. On the results of the implementation of the state budget of the DPRK for Juche 96 (2007) and its state budget for Juche 97 (2008)"
    Deputy Kim Yong Il, premier of the Cabinet, noted in the report on the first agenda item that last year a new phase was brought in the building of an economic power to increase the gross industrial output, major tasks of the 5-year plan for the development of the nation's science and technology ending in 2007 were carried out, and signal achievements were made in culture building.
    The reporter stressed that the main tasks in the field of economy for this year is to boost the basic industries, the pilot sectors of the national economy, so as to make a breakthrough in building an economic power and steadily push ahead with the technical modernization of the national economy while decisively solving the food and consumer goods problems to bring a substantial improvement in the standard of people's living.
    Deputy Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet, in his report on the second agenda item said that last year the plan for the state budgetary revenue was carried out at 100.2 per cent, a 6.1 per cent increase in revenue over the previous year and the plan for state budgetary expenditure at 101.7 per cent and 15.7 per cent of the total state budgetary expenditure was disbursed as military spending and a large amount of fund was allocated for the various fields of the national economy.
    The state budgetary revenue for this year is planned to grow four per cent over last year, he said, adding: This year the state budgetary expenditure will show an increase of 2.5 per cent over last year and much portion of the state budget be invested in the development of the national economy and the improvement of the standard of people's living and 15.8 per cent of the total state budgetary expenditure allocated for national defence.
    Speakers at the session said that the work of the Cabinet and the implementation of the state budget last year were properly reviewed and settled, and expressed full support and approval of the reports made on the two agenda items as clear tasks for this year were proposed and the state budget properly shaped.
    At the session, SPA decision "On approving the report on the work of the DPRK Cabinet and the results of the implementation of the state budget for Juche 96 (2007)" and SPA ordinance "On the state budget of the DPRK for Juche 97 (2008)" were adopted with unanimous approval of the deputies.
    At the session Deputy Kang Nung Su, vice-chairman of the SPA, was recalled.
