【Inside North Korea】

□ On November 26, the North Korean Central Broadcasting Station (KCBS) said, "More than 8,000 new houses have been built in North Pyongan Province,” and propagandized, “over 1,400 of the houses can take advantage of methane gas to enjoy greater convenience in daily life.”

□ On November 28, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, “This year all health facilities vaccinated preschool-age children against a variety of diseases according to a yearly inoculation plan and on several occasions took actions to strengthen the immunity of their respiratory systems, eyes and other parts of the body.”

□ On November 29, the North’s Rodong Sinmun published an editorial titled “Intellectuals are a powerful resource for building a powerful nation” in which the newspaper stated conclusively, “The history of our homeland’s prosperity is one of seizing great victories and epochal changes not only with the barrel of a gun but also with the shaft of a brush.” The organ of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) went on to emphasize, “The most significant task for today’s intellectuals is to fully unleash the spirit and mettle of their predecessors who shaped the nation into an ideologically great and powerful nation in the process of building an economically great and powerful nation.”

【Outside North Korea】

□ On November 28, North Korea’s Rodong Sinmun said, “The US has earmarked an enormous quantity of funds for the production of the Falcon space-based bomber in a bid to secure the ability to launch preemptive attacks on its enemies with a state-of-the-art space-based weapon at any given time so as to attain its invasive goals and thereby expand its dominance.” The newspaper also claimed, “As US war mongers hope to mount allegedly preemptive strikes against the nuclear launch pads of some nations, including us [North Korea], many countries around the world are beefing up their readiness to defend themselves, resulting in heightened tensions.”

□ On November 29, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted the North Korean representative at the 34th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference of the United Nations to stress that the North Korean government would continue to increase its cooperation with the FAO and its member states based on the foreign policy principles of independence, peace and friendship and actively contribute to the international endeavor to implement the action program adopted at the World Food Summit.

【Inter-Korean Issues】

□ On November 29, North Korea’s Central TV said, “Journalists from North and South Korea met in Pyongyang on November 27,” and added, “Present at the meeting were members of the media division of the each side’s committee for the implementation of the June 15 Declaration. Participants agreed to launch a movement to support the October 4 Declaration and engage in media activities in a way that attaches importance to the nation and expresses trust in fellow countrymen.”

□ On November 29, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, “The second round of North-South defense ministerial talks concluded today.” The KCNA said the two sides produced an agreement in which they stated North and South Korea would cooperate militarily with one another to “build a lasting peace” on the Korean peninsula and also “take measures to provide a military guarantee for North-South cooperation and exchanges.”
